DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is primarily focused on Dahmer's predatory behavior. Episodes depict him luring men to his apartment for sex, often by offering money. While explicit sex acts are not shown, scenes imply non-consensual sexual activity, often preceding or accompanying murder, and occasionally show partial nudity of victims, presented in a disturbing, non-erotic context linked to his crimes. One scene shows Dahmer masturbating while observing a man he has drugged.

The series contains strong, disturbing violence, though direct depictions of the killings are often implied or shown off-screen. Viewers see dead bodies, dismembered remains, and human organs. Dahmer attempts to drill into a victim's head, and later, a living man's skull. Blood and gore are present, particularly in scenes showing Dahmer disposing of bodies or interacting with remains. There are instances of victims struggling against Dahmer's attempts to drug or harm them. A prison fight results in blunt force…

Frequent strong language is present throughout the season, including multiple uses of 'f***,' 's***,' and other expletives. Characters use profanity in moments of anger, fear, and frustration, particularly victims and their families reacting to the injustice and horror of Dahmer's crimes.

Deeply disturbing themes permeate the season, including child abuse and neglect in Dahmer's upbringing, serial murder, cannibalism, and necrophilia. The show extensively explores themes of racism and homophobia within the police force and justice system, highlighting how these biases enabled Dahmer. Grief, trauma, and psychological degradation are central to the victims' families' stories. Mental illness, addiction, and social isolation are also recurrent themes.
