The violence is often contextualized by the political struggle and its consequences.

The series explores serious themes including political corruption, government surveillance, racial injustice, systemic violence against Indigenous communities, betrayal within activist groups, and the trauma of colonial history. The death of Annie Mae and the subsequent cover-up are central, raising themes of justice and accountability. Personal themes of identity, belonging, and sacrifice for a cause are also present.
