Firebite (2021) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is minimal. There is some mild romantic tension and a few kisses between characters. A key plot point involves vampires keeping humans as "bleeders" (a food source), which is a disturbing concept but not presented in a sexualized manner.

Violence is graphic, frequent, and the primary focus of the show. Vampire attacks involve biting, blood spurts, and torn flesh. The hunters use stakes and other weapons, leading to bloody fights with gory impalements. Characters are killed, and dead bodies with bloody injuries are shown. Scenes in the vampire lair include torture-like elements, such as people being chained and fed upon.

Language is strong and pervasive throughout the season. Multiple uses of "f--k" and "c--t" are present in every episode, along with a wide range of other profanity like "sh-t" and "bastard." The dialogue is consistently coarse.

Characters frequently drink beer and spirits in social settings, particularly in a pub that is a key location. Some scenes depict characters drinking to cope with stress, but overt drunkenness or drug use is not a focus.

The series is built on mature themes. It uses the vampire mythos as an allegory for the violence and trauma of colonialism on Indigenous Australians. It also deals heavily with grief, loss of a parent, family separation (including by child services), survival, and the cycle of violence.
