Ganglands (2021) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is limited. There are brief, non-graphic scenes of implied sexual activity. A couple is shown kissing passionately and partially undressing before cutting away. Some female characters are dressed in revealing clothing. There is a scene where a character propositions another, but it is rejected.

Graphic and pervasive violence defines this season. Shootings with bloody impacts, stabbings, and beatings are common. Characters are tortured with pliers to remove teeth, and one character's fingers are broken. There are explosions, car chases, and brutal fistfights. Many characters die violently, and blood and gore are frequently depicted. A character is interrogated and stabbed repeatedly off-screen, with sounds of their suffering heard.

Strong language is very frequent throughout, particularly 'f**k,' 'sh*t,' 'c**t,' and 'bitch,' often used in tense situations, arguments, and casual conversation by various characters including Mehdi, Tony, and Chris. French and Dutch profanity is also regularly used, translated in subtitles.

Drug dealing and trafficking are the central plot points, with characters frequently discussing and handling large quantities of drugs (cocaine, heroin). Characters are shown smoking cannabis. Alcohol consumption is present in social settings, with some characters shown drinking at bars and homes. There are no depictions of severe intoxication or addiction in this season.

This season explores intense themes of revenge, betrayal, family loyalty in a criminal context, and the psychological toll of violence. It deals with death, grief, and the loss of loved ones in extremely harsh circumstances. The corrupting influence of power and the inescapable cycle of violence are central to the narrative, leading to a sense of hopelessness for many characters.
