Sex and nudity in One Day

Moderate. Emma and Dexter are shown in their underwear in the film's opening, kissing and cuddling but deciding not to have sex. Later, a woman is seen with brief rear nudity, and in one scene, Emma is briefly shown with full frontal nudity before skinny dipping. Passionate kissing occurs, and Dexter's promiscuity is heavily implied. The theme of infidelity is also present when Dexter's wife is discovered to be having an affair.

Violence and gore in One Day

Mild to moderate. The film contains one sudden, shockingly violent moment where a main character is hit and killed by a truck; the event is not gory but is abrupt and highly impactful. In another scene, the aftermath of a bar fight is shown, with a character having a bruised and bloody face. A party game gets out of hand, resulting in a woman getting a bloody nose.

Language in One Day

Moderate. There is one use of the f-word during a key argument. Other profanity includes scattered uses of "bitch," "bastard," "bollocks," "prick," "bloody," and exclamations like "hell," "damn," and misuse of God's name.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in One Day

Moderate. Dexter goes through a significant period of substance abuse. He is shown drinking to excess, appearing drunk, and is depicted using cocaine in one scene. Social drinking of wine and beer occurs frequently at dinners, parties, and pubs throughout the film, consistent with the characters' lifestyles over two decades.

Mature themes in One Day

Strong. The film is built on mature themes of unrequited love, missed opportunities, and the passage of time. It explores class differences, career ambition versus failure, and family illness, as Dexter's mother has terminal cancer. The narrative is defined by a central, unexpected character death, leading to a prolonged and intense depiction of grief, depression, and self-destructive behavior.
