Sex and nudity in Chasing Liberty

This category is the main reason for the PG-13 rating. There is a skinny-dipping scene where protagonist Anna is briefly seen from behind in her underwear before entering a river; she is later seen from a distance while swimming. In another scene, she flirtatiously offers herself to Ben while covered by a blanket. Later, Anna and Ben kiss passionately before the scene fades, implying they spend the night together. Other content includes romantic kissing, flirting, and women in revealing outfits at a parade.

Violence and gore in Chasing Liberty

Violence is infrequent and not graphic. In one scene near the end, Ben punches a few men to rescue Anna after she is surrounded and harassed at a parade. Another scene involves a character being kneed in the groin. There are moments of situational peril, such as a character almost falling from a roof and a tense but voluntary bungee jump, but these are played for romantic tension rather than fear.

Language in Chasing Liberty

Language is mild and infrequent. Profanity includes a single use of "shit" and at least one use of "bloody hell." Other language consists of religious exclamations like "Oh my God" and "Jesus." The dialogue is mostly clean.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Chasing Liberty

There is a scene where Anna, who is 18, goes to a bar and drinks a large glass of beer as an act of rebellion. The film is set in Europe where the drinking age is generally 18 or lower. Adults are occasionally seen drinking wine or beer in social settings.

Mature themes in Chasing Liberty

The central theme is a young person's desire for independence and freedom from overprotective parents. The film also deals heavily with deception and betrayal, as a major plot point revolves around Ben lying about his identity to Anna. The subsequent reveal leads to a scene of intense emotional distress and heartbreak. Themes of personal responsibility and forgiveness are also present.
