Sex and nudity in Frida

Sexual content mostly appears as nudity within Frida’s paintings and in animated dreamlike sequences rather than explicit lovemaking. Several scenes linger on the painted or stylized nude body as part of her art (these are framed as artwork, not pornographic shots), and there are implied sexual/romantic encounters with Diego Rivera and other lovers. No explicit sex acts are shown on screen, but sexual themes and adult relationships are a recurring focus.

Violence and gore in Frida

There is a realistically rendered, traumatic bus-accident sequence depicting severe injury to Frida (presented seriously, not cartoonish). Medical/surgical scenes show wounds, hospital beds and orthopedic treatment; these moments are emotionally intense but not graphically gory. Physical peril and chronic pain are recurring elements tied to her lifetime of injuries.

Language in Frida

The film contains occasional strong profanity and blunt adult language across arguments and diary voiceovers. Swear words appear in confrontations and candid monologues; the tone is frank and adult. Language is frequent enough that sensitive younger viewers may be uncomfortable.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Frida

Moderate depictions of alcohol use and cigarette smoking appear in social and studio settings. Characters drink at parties and Frida is shown smoking in several scenes — these are portrayed as part of adult life rather than glamorized drug abuse. No illicit hard-drug use is depicted.

Mature themes in Frida

Strong mature themes include physical trauma and chronic pain from Frida’s bus accident and surgeries, marital infidelity and complicated romantic relationships (notably with Diego Rivera), identity and bodily autonomy, and the emotional effects of living with long-term disability. The film also explores artistic obsession and mortality through diary excerpts and reflective sequences. These themes are emotionally weighty and may be upsetting to younger viewers.
