Wisting (2019) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is largely absent from this season. There are no explicit sexual scenes or nudity. Brief thematic references to sexual aspects might be implied by the nature of the serial killer's past crimes against women, but these are not visually depicted.

Violence is strong and graphic. The season opens with a shocking ambush that results in multiple deaths, including a main character, with clear depictions of bullet wounds and blood. Later, there are discoveries of human remains in various stages of decomposition, and scenes of abduction involving struggle and implied force. A character is shot and killed, and another is deliberately run over by a car. The threat of violence is constant and severe, with a focus on the psychological terror inflicted by the killers.

Frequent use of strong language is present throughout the season, including terms such as "f**k," "sh*t," and other expletives in both spoken Norwegian (with subtitles) and occasionally in English dialogue. The profanity is consistent with previous seasons and is often used by police officers and suspects alike.

Alcohol is consumed casually in social settings, such as at a hotel bar or during dinner, but it is not a central plot point nor is intoxication frequently depicted. There is also a plotline involving the main character's daughter's ex-boyfriend falling in with drug dealers, implying drug use and dealing, though not explicitly shown on-screen.

Major themes include serial murder, the psychological impact of violent crime, wrongful conviction, and the challenges of balancing a demanding career with family life. The constant threat posed by a serial killer, kidnapping, and the subsequent cover-up attempts create sustained tension and frightening situations. One character is wrongly accused of a prior murder, leading to themes of injustice and the struggle to clear one's name.
