The Kingdom (2021) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is present through implied infidelity and suggestive conversations. Characters discuss extramarital affairs, and there are scenes implying sexual encounters off-screen. No explicit nudity or graphic sexual acts are shown.

Violence is strong and pervasive, often politically motivated and sometimes graphic. This includes mob violence, targeted assassinations, beatings, and threats. Characters are shown brandishing and using firearms, and there are several scenes depicting the aftermath of violent acts, such as dead bodies or injured individuals with visible blood. Torture is briefly implied and discussed in connection to political prisoners.

Profanity is moderate throughout the season. Spanish expletives (e.g., 'puta,' 'mierda,' 'cabrón') are used, sometimes in heated arguments or moments of stress. English subtitles translate these to equivalents like 'bitch,' 'shit,' and 'bastard.' The language is consistent with adult drama.

Characters are seen drinking alcohol in social settings, including wine with meals and harder liquor at gatherings. There are scenes of characters smoking cigarettes, often to indicate stress or contemplation. There is no explicit depiction of drug use.

The season deeply explores themes of political corruption, religious hypocrisy, abuse of power, and moral compromise. Characters grapple with betrayal, mental health crises (such as Osorio's intensifying hallucinations), death, and grief. The erosion of democratic institutions and the manipulation of public perception are central to the narrative, presenting a cynical view of political and religious authority.
