The series deals heavily with themes of a looming apocalypse, war, and the loss of loved ones. Characters experience grief, trauma, and the pressure of preventing a catastrophic future. Discussions of destiny, sacrifice, and the morality of time travel are also prevalent. Mental health is touched upon with Tae-sul's past trauma and hallucinations.
