Lioness (2023) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is moderate. There are scenes implying sexual encounters between characters, with some partial nudity (rear/side nudity, implied breasts) and suggestive movements. A subplot involves a character being pressured into revealing attire for an infiltration, and an implied sexual assault (drugging of drink) is a plot point.

Violence is strong and graphic. Early episodes feature intense combat, including close-quarters gunfights with bloody aftermath. Torture is depicted, including waterboarding and other methods, which are disturbing and prolonged. Other violence includes domestic abuse, a graphic car crash with multiple fatalities, and targeted assassinations.

Profanity is frequent and strong, including regular use of 'fuck,' 'motherfucker,' 'shit,' and 'bitch.' Characters, particularly those in military or clandestine roles, use expletives casually and in moments of high stress or anger.

Occasional social drinking is depicted, primarily adults consuming alcohol at gatherings or unwinding after work. There is an instance where a drink is drugged with the intent to incapacitate, adding a sinister dimension to substance use.

Mature themes explored include the psychological trauma of warfare and espionage (PTSD, moral injury), the strains on family life due to demanding careers, terrorism, and betrayal. Issues of identity and profound personal sacrifice for national security are central to the narrative, particularly for Joe and Cruz.
