Anthracite (2024) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is strong and includes non-consensual acts. There is a graphic depiction of a woman raping a mentally unstable man, with full nudity though no explicit genitals. Other instances include suggestive heterosexual and gay sex scenes with partial nudity (upper body only), and a non-graphic scene depicting a woman's pubic region and vagina during childbirth. Sexual themes are often disturbing and tied to the cult's activities.

Violence is strong and at times graphic. The series features multiple murders, including a character shot in the head with blood splatter, and another found deceased with signs of ritualistic killing. There are scenes of characters being held captive, physical assaults, and a severe explosion in a mine. The violence is integral to the mystery and the dark tone of the series, often resulting in blood and disturbing imagery.

Profanity is moderate throughout the season. Characters use words like 'f***', 's***', and 'b****' with some frequency, especially when under stress or in moments of anger. The language contributes to the gritty and intense atmosphere but is not constant or gratuitous.

Mild substance use is shown, primarily social drinking. There are depictions of characters occasionally consuming alcohol in social settings or to cope with stress, but heavy intoxication or drug abuse is not a central plot point or graphically depicted.

Thematic content is severe, revolving around cult activity, murder, trauma, mental illness, and betrayal. The series explores the lasting psychological impact of a cult on its survivors and the community. Themes of identity, justice, and the dark side of human nature are pervasive, creating a consistently unsettling and intense viewing experience.
