Sex and nudity in Duplex

Sexual content is moderate and played for comedy. A couple is shown having sex under bed covers with movement and sounds, but no nudity. A character is introduced as a pornographer and gives the main couple pornographic DVDs with raunchy covers. An elderly woman falsely accuses a man of being a sexual predator. A nurse comically touches a man's genitals while checking his temperature.

Violence and gore in Duplex

Violence is moderate and almost entirely slapstick. The main characters fantasize about killing their neighbor, including imagining her falling down stairs. In the chaotic climax, a man is shot in the shoulder with a spear gun (brief and not gory), a character has their face singed by a fireplace, and another is tasered. A scene involves a woman vomiting onto a man's face through a garbage disposal.

Language in Duplex

Language is moderate for a PG-13 film. There are a few uses of "shit" and "asshole," along with scattered instances of "damn," "hell," and "bitch." The elderly tenant's pet parrot is named "Little Dick," and the name is used repeatedly as a form of juvenile humor and wordplay throughout the film.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Duplex

Substance use is mild. Characters drink wine and other alcoholic beverages socially at dinner and a party. A background character smokes a cigarette. In one scene, a police officer is shown smoking what is clearly a marijuana joint while on a stakeout.

Mature themes in Duplex

The film's primary themes are dark and mature, though handled with a comedic tone. The main characters' escalating frustration drives them to seriously contemplate and then attempt to hire a hitman to murder an elderly woman. The plot also revolves around themes of deception, harassment, gaslighting, and a long-running criminal scam.
