Sex and nudity in Captain Pantoja and the Special Services
Strong and recurrent sexual content and nudity are central to the plot. IMDb Parents Guide notes several scenes where women expose breasts, buttocks and pubic hair (for example a woman pulls off her dress to reveal breasts and pubic hair) and multiple naked scenes among the female cast; the captain ultimately has sexual encounters with some of the women. Scenes range from topless nudity to implied and on-screen sex; nudity is explicit but non-graphic. This sexual material is the main reason for the R rating.
Violence and gore in Captain Pantoja and the Special Services
Mild. There are no graphic or prolonged violent scenes reported. The story is framed around reducing real-world sexual violence near bases, but IMDb notes no explicit depictions of rape; occasional brief military roughness or scuffles may occur. Overall the film is not focused on physical brutality.
Language in Captain Pantoja and the Special Services
Mild coarse language appears intermittently. IMDb Parents Guide lists general adult language and occasional insults rather than frequent hardcore profanity. Expect some rough phrasing in soldiers' and officers' dialogue.

Mild social drinking and cigarette smoking are shown. IMDb Parents Guide specifically mentions social alcohol use and cigarettes but no recreational drug use or overdose scenes. Drug use is not a significant element.
Mature themes in Captain Pantoja and the Special Services
Moderate, adult themes drive the film: prostitution, sexual exploitation, duty versus personal ethics, and marital strain. The captain's emotional change and his relationship with Olga (the Colombian) move the story from comic to more dramatic territory (see Wikipedia plot summary and IMDb notes). Parents should be prepared for frank treatment of sex work and its effects on relationships and identity.
