Sex and nudity in Batman & Robin

Innuendo and suggestive content are frequent and played for campy humor. The villain Poison Ivy consistently uses her sexuality to manipulate men, including using a 'pheromone dust' and a deadly kiss. Dialogue is filled with double-entendres (e.g., 'grab your rocks'). The Batsuits are famously designed with prominent, sculpted nipples and buttocks, and the camera often lingers on them. Ivy and Robin share a passionate kiss, and her costumes are often revealing.

Violence and gore in Batman & Robin

Violence is pervasive but highly stylized and cartoonish, with no blood or gore. It consists of frequent fistfights with choreographed martial arts, kicking, and gadget use. Mr. Freeze uses his ray gun to encase numerous people in blocks of ice. The hulking villain Bane throws people and causes destruction. A character is killed with a poisonous kiss, and another is thrown from a window, but the acts are not graphic. The climax involves city-wide peril as Gotham begins to freeze over.

Language in Batman & Robin

Language is very mild for a PG-13 film. There are a handful of uses of 'hell' and 'damn'.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Batman & Robin

Substance use is present and plot-relevant. The villain Bane is powered by 'Venom,' a green super-steroid pumped directly into his brain through tubes, and his transformation and withdrawal are shown. Poison Ivy uses a magical 'pheromone dust' to intoxicate and control people. In one scene, Mr. Freeze smokes a cigar.

Mature themes in Batman & Robin

Moderate thematic elements are present. A central plot point involves Mr. Freeze's desperate and tragic quest to cure his terminally ill wife, who is kept in cryogenic stasis. Batman's butler, Alfred, is also revealed to be suffering from the same fatal disease, creating personal stakes for the heroes. Themes also include betrayal, as Poison Ivy cruelly manipulates Mr. Freeze and attempts to turn Robin against Batman.
