The series depicts frequent and often graphic violence typical of a historical outlaw setting. Gunfights, stabbings, and beatings are common. Characters are shown being injured or killed, with blood and wounds visible. The violence is often intense and can be disturbing, reflecting the harsh realities of the cangaceiro life.

Strong language is prevalent throughout the season, reflecting the gritty nature of the historical setting. Characters frequently use expletives, including F-bombs and other strong profanity, often in moments of anger, frustration, or during violent encounters.

Mature themes of betrayal, abandonment, and moral ambiguity are central. Maria experiences significant trauma through forced separation from her child. Themes of gender inequality and societal constraints on women are also explored through Maria's arc.
