The Emoji Movie is officially rated PG. Bontent's independent parent guide recommends it for ages 6+.

The Emoji Movie follows Gene, a multi-expressional emoji living inside a teenager's smartphone, as he searches for a way to become a 'normal' icon. The film received a PG rating primarily for persistent rude humor and moderate cartoon-style peril. Parents should note themes of identity and social pressure alongside…

There is light, age-appropriate flirting and a single instance of two characters kissing. The content is very mild and non-suggestive.

The film features stylized cartoon action and peril. Characters are chased by anti-virus 'bots' that attempt to delete them, but no gore or realistic injury occurs. This is typical animated fantasy adventure fare.

Occasional mild name-calling and impolite language are present. Words like 'turd', 'knucklehead', and 'loser' are used, along with a few uses of 'Oh my God' and 'Hell'.

There is a brief, comedic moment where a character mistakes a coffee emoji for beer. There is no actual alcohol consumption or substance use.

The film centers on themes of self-acceptance, social exclusion, and the pressure to conform. Some tension is derived from the constant threat of 'deletion' or total memory erasure.

The Emoji Movie runs 86 minutes, directed by Tony Leondis, released in 2017.
