To the Sea (2021) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is more pronounced this season, focusing heavily on infidelity and marital problems. There are several scenes of passionate kissing and implied sexual encounters, though no nudity is shown. Characters are frequently seen in intimate embraces, sometimes in various stages of undress (e.g., shirtless, in lingerie), implying sexual activity. Discussions about sex, desire, and attraction are common, and a major plotline involves an affair with several suggestive scenes.

Physical violence is largely absent. There is a single instance of a brief, non-graphic physical altercation between two men, resulting in no serious injury. Moments of peril involve characters in tense situations, such as being lost at sea briefly or arguments that escalate emotionally, but do not result in physical harm. The focus is on emotional conflict rather than physical confrontation.

The language in this season is moderate, with occasional use of mild to moderate expletives such as "damn," "hell," and variations of "asshole." More intense language like "bitch" or "shit" appears infrequently, primarily during moments of high stress or anger between characters. Dialogue often includes suggestive remarks and adult humor.

Alcohol consumption is present throughout the season, primarily in social settings or as a coping mechanism for characters dealing with stress or relationship issues. Characters are seen drinking wine, beer, and spirits. There are occasional scenes of characters becoming noticeably intoxicated, leading to heightened emotions or poor decisions. No illicit drug use is depicted.

The season explores adult themes of unrequited love, infidelity, financial strain, and family disagreements. Characters grapple with jealousy, betrayal, and the challenges of maintaining relationships and businesses. The emotional complexity and mature nature of these themes contribute significantly to the show's overall tone, requiring viewers to understand nuanced human relationships and their consequences.
