Thermae Romae Novae (2022) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Moderate partial nudity is a recurring element due to the bathhouse setting. Characters, male and female, are frequently shown bare-chested or with bare backs and buttocks. Any frontal nudity is either obscured, pixelated, or presented in a highly stylized, non-explicit manner for comedic effect. There is no sexual content or innuendo beyond the depiction of nudity in a bathing context.

Mild, infrequent instances of peril or minor physical comedy occur. For example, Lucius might be startled or briefly involved in a non-graphic scuffle. No graphic violence, injuries, or combat are depicted. One episode involves soldiers in a healing bath after battle, but the actual conflict is not shown.

The series contains no profanity or strong language. Characters speak in polite, often formal tones reflecting their respective historical or modern contexts, without any usage of vulgarity or slurs.

Mild infrequent alcohol consumption is present, often in social Roman settings with characters drinking wine. This is generally in the background or part of a meal, and rarely leads to intoxication. There is no depiction of drug use or smoking.

Mild thematic elements include cultural misunderstandings and Lucius's struggle for innovation in ancient Roman society. There's also a mild portrayal of political maneuvering and sabotage related to Lucius's work in the final episode. No profound or deeply distressing themes like trauma, abuse, or loss are central to the series beyond minor societal pressures.
