Prehistoric Planet (2022) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Brief scenes show dinosaurs engaging in courtship rituals or mating, often implied rather than explicit, with foliage or camera angles obscuring details. A pregnant dinosaur gives birth, with the focus on the newborn rather than graphic depiction.

Violence is depicted as part of the natural world, including predator-prey interactions and territorial disputes. While not graphic, some scenes involve dinosaurs fighting, biting, and killing. Blood is sometimes briefly visible on predators after a kill, or implied through context, but never in a gory manner. Young or smaller dinosaurs are occasionally shown being hunted or eaten.

The series features no spoken dialogue from characters or any use of profanity throughout the episodes. David Attenborough provides a clinical and educational narration that focuses entirely on the natural history of the Late Cretaceous period. As the show mimics a traditional nature documentary, there is no scripted language or verbal communication that would be inappropriate for children.

Core themes revolve around survival, adaptation, and the life cycle in the Cretaceous period. This includes the struggle for resources, mating rituals, protecting offspring, and the inevitability of predation. Moments of intense peril for various species are depicted, highlighting the harsh realities of their ecosystem.
