Partial female upper backside nudity is briefly seen, and a character mentions a threesome. Discussions about personal sexual lives and relationships are also more prominent.

Violence and gore in Designated Survivor

Violence is moderate and includes a massive terrorist bombing at the series' opening, resulting in many casualties (shown primarily through aftermath and brief flashbacks). There are several tense situations involving armed confrontations, shootings, and physical altercations, often leading to bloodless deaths or injuries. A prominent character is shot multiple times and later dies, shown graphically but not excessively gory. Torture is implied in one episode, but not explicitly shown.

Language in Designated Survivor

The language in Season 3 is significantly stronger and more frequent than in previous seasons. The word "f--k" and its derivatives are used multiple times in nearly every episode, often in moments of stress or anger. Other strong profanities, including "sh-t" and "b-tch," are also present.

Mature themes in Designated Survivor

The season explores heavy themes including bioterrorism, political corruption and smear campaigns, opioid addiction, child marriage, transgender rights, racial identity, and immigration. Grief and personal trauma are also significant, particularly for Emily and Kirkman, impacting their decision-making and mental health.
