Nowhere Boy is an R-leaning teen biopic about a young John Lennon caught between his strict Aunt Mimi and his charismatic mother, Julia. The film earned its stronger advisory for repeated strong profanity and a number of sexual references (implied sex, crude sexual jokes) alongside scenes of smoking, underage drinking and short physical fights. Sex and nudity in Nowhere Boy

Moderate, mostly implied sexual activity and crude jokes rather than explicit nudity. IMDb Parents Guide notes multiple implied sex scenes (a boy overhears adults having sex; John exits a bathroom with a girl; three implied encounters) plus juvenile sexual teasing ("Show us your jugs", masturbation jokes). There's one brief moment where a boy briefly exposes himself from behind (pants on, shot from the back). No frontal nudity or explicit sex is shown.

Violence and gore in Nowhere Boy

Mild and brief physical altercations: scuffles, punches and one instance of a character pushed to the ground. The most intense on-screen violence is a wake scuffle in which John hits bandmates; injuries shown are limited (a bloody nose). There is no graphic gore or prolonged fighting.

Language in Nowhere Boy

Frequent strong profanity throughout — IMDb notes about 21 uses of the F-word — along with sexual slang ("cock", "balls", "dick") and casual swearing among teens and adults. Swearing appears in rehearsal, arguments and party scenes, and is a persistent feature of the film's tone. Expect mature-language dialogue in many scenes.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Nowhere Boy

Moderate depiction of tobacco and alcohol use. Adults are regularly shown smoking; several scenes show drinking, and John and his bandmates take part in underage drinking at parties. Substance use is presented as part of the social environment rather than glamorized.

Mature themes in Nowhere Boy

Strong family themes: abandonment, fractured custody, and grief after sudden death recur across the film. The death of Uncle George and later the fatal car accident that kills Julia are central emotional beats and drive John's anger and choices (IMDb and plot sources describe the fatal accident and its aftermath). The film handles teenage rebellion, parental conflict and mourning in ways that may be intense for sensitive viewers.
