Mature themes in Free Willy

A film about a child in the foster care system who has never had a stable home — and the whale who becomes his mirror. Jesse's difficult relationship with trust and attachment. The film doesn't sentimentalise the foster system. The leap at the end is one of cinema's great images of liberation.
