Sex and nudity in Flipped

Sexual content is very light and limited to brief dialogue. There is a passing, non-visual reference to a Playboy magazine when a character asks if her brother is looking at one. The main characters also contemplate the idea of a first kiss, but there are no sexual situations or nudity.

Violence and gore in Flipped

Violence is mostly mild, but contains one notable exception that is emotionally charged. During a tense family argument, Juli's father slaps her across the face in a sudden, upsetting moment. In an earlier scene that might unsettle sensitive children, a snake is shown eating a chicken egg with audible cracking sound effects. A young Juli is also physically persistent in her pursuit of Bryce, grabbing him and not letting go.

Language in Flipped

Language is moderate for a PG film and includes several instances of profanity. Words used include 'shit' (3 times), 'asshole' (once), 'hell' (4 times), 'damn', and 'crap'. Significantly, reflecting the film's early 1960s setting, the outdated and offensive word 'retard' is used by a character to mock Juli's mentally disabled uncle.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in Flipped

Substance use is very mild. Adults are briefly shown drinking wine or other alcoholic beverages at a sit-down family dinner. There is no depiction of drunkenness or substance abuse.

Mature themes in Flipped

The film explores complex themes including family conflict, financial hardship, and prejudice. A particularly intense scene involves a heated family argument with shouting, culminating in a slap. Juli's family cares for her mentally disabled uncle, and other characters make cruel, judgmental comments about both his condition and the family's modest lifestyle. Scenes also depict a character's deep emotional distress over a tree being cut down and another's public humiliation.
