There is no sexual content or physical intimacy beyond the mice holding paws. The story focuses on the romantic but chaste engagement and wedding of Poppy Eyebright and Dusty Dogwood. The narrative concludes with a celebratory wedding ceremony that remains entirely innocent and focused on companionship. It is a sweet representation of a traditional commitment within a woodland setting. The tone is romantic in a fairy-tale sense, emphasizing the beauty of the occasion.

There are no instances of violence, threats, or physical conflict in this story. The most tense moment involves the physical labor of building a large raft for the wedding party, which requires focus and effort. Characters show care and concern for one another as they navigate the river environment. No character is ever in any danger or harmed. The story maintains a peaceful and safe atmosphere throughout the summer activities.

There is no profanity, slang, or offensive language found in the text. The vocabulary is rich and descriptive, focusing on botanical terms and the domestic life of the mice. Phrases like 'bless my whiskers' or other mild exclamations are the extent of the emotive language used. It is perfectly suited for children who are just beginning to learn the nuances of descriptive English. The tone remains respectful and polite between all characters.

Substance use is extremely mild and presented in a whimsical, celebratory context. The mice consume 'elderflower wine' and 'hazelnut cordial' during the wedding feast at the end of the book. These beverages are treated as natural, magical nectars harvested from the hedge rather than intoxicants. No character shows any signs of impairment or negative effects from the drinks. The focus is entirely on the flavor and the festivity of the communal meal.

The primary themes are community, cooperation, and the appreciation of the natural world. The mice of Brambly Hedge demonstrate how to work together to achieve a complex goal, such as building the wedding raft. There is a strong sense of tradition and the importance of celebrating milestones with one's neighbors. The story also encourages an observant eye toward the changing seasons and the bounty of nature. It is a wholesome exploration of friendship and social harmony.
