In this enchanting Dr Thorndyke mystery, an ill wind and the puzzle of an intriguing stranger begins when on a wet and windy silent night in the sleeping city of London, the body of a man is found sprawled across Millfield Lane. Richard Austin Freeman was a British writer of detective stories, mostly featuring the medico-legal forensic investigator Dr. Thorndyke. He claimed to have invented the inverted detective story. Freeman used some of his early experiences as a colonial surgeon in his novels.
