Umamusume: Pretty Derby (2018) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Infrequent mild innuendo occurs, primarily involving the male trainer complimenting or observing the horse girls' physiques in an unintended non-sexual context, leading to them jokingly calling him a 'pervert' or kicking him in a comedic manner. There is no explicit sexual content or nudity.

Cartoonish slapstick violence occurs infrequently, usually involving a horse girl comically kicking the trainer. This results in minimal, non-graphic injury such as a nosebleed. The primary 'violence' or peril stems from the highly competitive races and the risk of injuries, though the injuries themselves are discussed and shown as consequences rather than graphic depictions.

Mild infrequent language is present, with characters occasionally saying words like "damn" or "hell" in moments of frustration or surprise. This is consistent with the anime's generally family-friendly tone.

There are no instances of illegal substance use, smoking, or references to narcotics throughout the season. The dialogue remains clean and appropriate for a general audience, focusing entirely on competitive racing and athletic training. Characters occasionally celebrate their victories with food and treats rather than alcohol.

This season delves into intense themes of injury, recovery, dashed dreams, and the emotional struggle of athletes facing potential career-ending setbacks. Tokai Teio suffers multiple leg fractures, leading to deep depression and thoughts of retirement. Mejiro McQueen also faces significant injury, and both characters grapple with their identities and purpose when they cannot race. These themes of loss, resilience, and supporting friends through hardship are central.
