Thundarr the Barbarian (1980) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content is very light. In one episode, a villain captures Ariel with the intent of forcing her to be his bride; the situation is resolved without any sexual elements. Ariel's costume is somewhat revealing, in line with the fantasy barbarian genre.

Frequent stylized violence occurs throughout the season. Battles involve swords, magic blasts, and hand-to-hand combat against various creatures, robots, and humanoids. Impacts are cartoonish, with characters often knocked backward or stunned, but never show blood or lasting injury. The violence is action-adventure oriented with low stakes for character harm, consistent with Saturday morning cartoons of the era.

The dialogue consists of standard heroic archetypes and villainous taunts. There is no profanity, vulgarity, or harsh language used throughout the season.

There is no substance use depicted in this season. Characters do not consume alcohol, tobacco, or drugs at any point.

The primary theme is good versus evil in a post-apocalyptic setting. Many episodes involve the heroes liberating enslaved people from despotic wizards. One episode features a character being unjustly accused of a crime and sentenced to death by being boiled alive, which could be intense for younger viewers.
