Age Rating, Sex, Violence & Language

Nick Fallin is a hotshot lawyer working at his father's ultrasuccessful Pittsburgh law firm. Unfortunately, the high life has gotten the best of Nick. Arrested for drug use, he's sentenced to do 1,500 hours of community service, somehow to be squeezed into his 24/7 cutthroat world of mergers, acquisitions and board meetings. Reluctantly, he's now The Guardian - a part-time child advocate at Legal Aid Services, where one case after another is an eye-opening instance of kids caught up in difficult circumstances.

Sex/Nudity Intense 10/10

Mature Themes Intense 10/10

Sex and nudity in The Guardian

Sexual content is mild, primarily consisting of implied sexual situations or brief, non-graphic nudity. Episode 3, 'The Dead,' features brief rear nudity and a glimpse of a woman's side breast as she gets out of bed. There are discussions of sexual themes related to the legal cases, including prostitution in prior seasons and a transvestite character seeking custody in 'Understand Your Man,' but these are handled discreetly.

Violence and gore in The Guardian

Violence is mild and generally not graphic. There are references to past violence, such as a child being beaten in 'The Dark' and murder accusations in 'Monster' and 'Sacrifice.' Fisticuffs are not common, and bloodshed is minimal. The focus is more on the aftermath and legal implications of violent acts.

Language in The Guardian

Profanity is moderate throughout the season. Words like 'damn,' 'hell,' 'ass,' and occasional uses of 'shit' and 'bitch' are heard. The language is generally in keeping with dramatic legal settings, used to convey frustration or anger rather than being gratuitous.

Drugs, alcohol, and smoking in The Guardian

Substance use is strongly depicted this season, particularly Nick's struggle with drug addiction. He is shown actively using drugs, experiencing the effects, and going through withdrawal. Alcohol consumption, including in social settings and sometimes to excess, is also present. The consequences of drug use and addiction are central to major plotlines.

Mature themes in The Guardian

Mature themes are pervasive, including addiction, betrayal, terminal illness (ALS, cancer, AIDS), child abuse, and the ethical dilemmas of the justice system. Familial strife, parental abandonment, and dealing with a child born with Down Syndrome are explored, adding significant emotional weight. The show handles these topics with seriousness and realism.
