Somali and the Forest Spirit (2020) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

None. There is a brief, implied misunderstanding in episode two where a character asks to examine the Golem's body for medicinal purposes, but it's quickly clarified as non-sexual. A cat character makes a remark about Somali smelling 'delicious' but it refers to her human scent and is not sexualized.

The violence is mostly mild, consisting of fantasy creature attacks, chases, and threats, often involving cartoonish peril. Some scenes show characters in danger, such as Somali being targeted by predatory creatures or human hunters. Blood is very rarely shown and impacts are typically not graphic. The final episodes feature more intense action and creature transformations.

The language in this series is consistently mild. There are no instances of strong profanity. Occasional exclamations or minor frustrations are expressed, fitting for a fantasy setting and typically equivalent to 'darn' or 'idiot'.

There is light, occasional depiction of alcohol consumption. Characters are sometimes shown drinking sake or other alcoholic beverages in social settings, but never to the point of intoxication. There is no depiction of drug use or tobacco.

The series deals with strong themes of prejudice against humans, the rarity and vulnerability of life, and the emotional weight of mortality. The Golem's limited lifespan is a constant underlying current, leading to poignant discussions about death and loss. Somali faces abandonment and the fear of being alone, contributing to emotional intensity. Discrimination against humans is a driving plot point.
