Behind Her Eyes (2021) Parents Guide: Is the series OK for kids?

Sexual content includes an extramarital affair between Louise and David, depicted with several kissing scenes and implied intimacy, though no graphic nudity. Adele uses her sexuality to manipulate David and others, and there are suggestive conversations and visual references to sex. A kiss between same-sex characters is also shown.

Violence is primarily psychological and implied, but there are multiple acts of self-harm, including Adele cutting herself and descriptions of past suicide attempts. A character is shown committing murder through suffocation, and another is pushed off a cliff. There are also brief, intense moments of paranormal threat and unsettling imagery, particularly related to astral projection.

Strong language is used occasionally throughout the season, including terms like "f**k," "sh*t," and "bitch." These expletives are typically used for emphasis during moments of anger, frustration, or stress, rather than as casual dialogue.

Characters frequently consume alcohol socially, often to cope with stress or in romantic settings. David is shown drinking heavily in several episodes, sometimes to the point of impairment. Prescription medication use for mental health conditions is a plot point, though not depicted as abuse.

The season explores profound themes of grief, mental illness, obsession, and identity theft. Gaslighting and psychological manipulation are central to the plot, particularly within David and Adele's marriage. Death, suicide, and the supernatural nature of astral projection, including body swapping, are recurring and central to the narrative's dark tone.
