Mother Knows Best is officially rated NR. Bontent's independent parent guide recommends it for ages 15+.

Mother Knows Best is a surreal short film about a famous musical artist, Mother Mary, who seeks help from an estranged collaborator, Sam, to exorcise a spectral entity haunting her. The film explores themes of trauma, artistic partnership, and mental health through dark, metaphorical imagery involving body horror…

There is a fleeting, non-explicit mention of the past romantic relationship between Mary and Sam, but no sexual acts are depicted.

The film features a brief but intense moment of self-harm where a character uses shears to cut their own chest during an exorcism ritual. This is presented as a supernatural metaphor for releasing emotional trauma.

No profanity or coarse language is used.

There is a passing, minor reference to a character's history of distress, but no actual substance use is shown or depicted on screen.

The film deals with heavy, mature themes including the fallout of traumatic accidents, professional resentment, and internal manifestations of grief. The narrative uses surrealism to examine the intersection of artistic identity and self-destruction.

Mother Knows Best runs 11 minutes, directed by Benjamin Schwartz, released in 2026.
